Marathon training is officially in full swing over here! This is the first time that I have trained for a marathon alone, and I thought that I would have trouble motivating myself to lace up and get out there, but I have been working on improving my self-talk, and I must say it has been helping!
Eating a meal/snack prior to exercise can fuel the body so that you can push yourself during your workout. Studies have shown that eating prior to exercise can benefit endurance performance but can also help you push harder during short, intense bursts of activity such as a HIIT workout. But how important is it to make a specific "pre-workout" meal part of your routine?
There is a lot of conflicting information out there surrounding nutrition and exercise. People like to throw around phrases like "pre-workout" and "optimal window" and "fed vs fasted workout" and "nutrient timing". The truth is, what is important regarding exercise nutrition really comes down to what your individual goals and preferences are. Over the next few posts, I will breakdown the reasons for nutrient consumption before, during, and after working out, and whether it would fit into your personal fitness goals.
I've been thinking a lot lately about my relationship with running. I didn't really start running until I was in my late 20s, mainly as a way to spend more time with Tony. At the time, we had been dating for about a year, and he would go out for a run a few times a week. He seemed to really enjoy it, and one day I asked if I could join.
Hope you had a wonderful week! This week was the last full week of Tighter Together, a strength training program/community put together by blogger Madeline Custer. Although the program doesn't officially end until next Wednesday, yesterday was the last full body workout and I made sure to give it all I had. I will put a full review of the program very soon. This was a hypertrophy week, so I focused on pushing the weight in each workout.

As runners, we often have trouble committing to anything that isn’t running, even if we know we should. There’s a mindset that if you want to get better at running, then all you need to do is run more. But that isn’t necessarily true.
To say that I love high carb days would be an understatement. I have always been a crunchy/salty kinda gal. I would take pretzels or nachos over pastries or ice cream any day of the week.
If I had it my way, I would work out first thing every morning. I love the feeling of accomplishment of finishing a tough workout before the sun comes up.
